I would love to see some piggyback cars. SP had their Golden Pig service and WP a substantial fleet as well. I've been trying to bash the Marklin "piggyback" into something prototypical for a while and I can tell you its a lot more than just adding truck trailers.
Many cars had a guard rail on the long sides to keep drivers on the car and special hardware on the ends for the ramps. Most had collapsible mounts for the trailer king pin. Not a lot of standardization on the western roads as they were always trying to match their customers' trailer lengths.
Probably the most interesting car I ran across was one built for Ford to haul their auto delivery trailers.

I seen some once in Z that someone made/modified. Had that collapsible mount you speak of, and it really worked.so that is doable. Early ones were home grown on railroad company cars, but you are right they would have to be made from the ground up. Short early ones of the 50s and 60s, or the later versions. Illinois Central and Burlington had them for sure.

I have a question for Rob A. You said you would consider producing more brass cabooses if there was demand. How would that work? How do you gage the demand? Thx Terry.

Yes, we will produce more Brass caboose models in the future. This is an excellent place to make you desires known! So, which models would you like? Best, -Rob(A) AZL

www.railwayclassics.com/cbq11.htm Any of the CB&Q wooden waycars. Some of them were built back in the 1800s and kept going up till the end. NE 10s were steel ones that were built in the 30s and 40s, you could paint them in CB&Q and BN colors, so that would be 2 railroads you could do with one car, they look almost like the Märklin ones, but they only had 4 windows on each side. NE 12s, look cool and you could do 3 or 4 different paint schemes for the CB&Q and BN. They are the ones that Bachmann paints in ATSF and UP colors, but they only existed in the Q and BN colors, as far as I know. NE 13 were made starting in 1964 by Morrison, again in different schemes for the CB&Q and BN, but they are similar to cabooses used by other railroads. I do know where you can get plans for all of these.
