And to Clarify on the 53' spine cars....
A has 1 coupler, and two sets of wheels on it.(Male Adapter...) B has 1 coupler and 1 set of wheels on it. (Female Adapter) C, D, and E has 1 set of wheels on the Male end and then the female end is with the Spine.
This is concurrent with the way that Real Life AND HO Scale models are done.

They run grrreat...well, at least I personally haven't had any problems with them. I still have 2 more sets to assemble+decal. Here is a video for you of them being pulled behind 15 cars...

This thread prompted me to register on the AZL forum. It's good to read how other modelers support the continued development of contemporary Z rolling stock. Offering modern rolling stock does offer a good shot at drawing in new modelers, after all it's what they see on the rails, what they identify with.
More over, Z is the prime scale in which to offer this equipment because it showcases technological advancements in the hobby (through miniturization for example) so well and its size benefits casual modelers - after all younger modelers are faced with lots of distractions.
Present day Z loco mechs and recent releases of much wider radii sectional curves are a big boost to the scale and lured me out of N. Z needs to break out of its 'Teutonic' past - track geometry and otherwise. With modern manufacturing capabilities there's no longer any reason for Z to be constrained as it was by 70s technology.
Lots of good suggestions so far, not sure what I can add, but here's a go...
1. 17,600 gal. 'corn syrup' tanks 2. 2 bay ACF hoppers 3. ARMN reefers 4. 'Evans' gondolas 6. Geeps (7/9) in later paint schemes - for our yards and branches 7. SW1500 - MP15 AC and/or DC
Keep the good stuff coming, AZL! And a shout out for the IC SD70s! Any schedule for those?

Thanks for the input! Here's the scoop: 1) ARMN reefers have been announced by InterMountain as their 2nd Z scale release 2) We will be releasing GP7/9 DECEMBER 2012 (latest shipping date from factory) including ATSF (Blue) NYC (Lightning Stripe) SP (Bloody Nose) UP, WP, MP, MILW, CB&Q (Red Burlington) D&RGW (Rio Grande) 3) MTL has announced SW1500
As for Evans, 2 bay ACF and 17,600 tanks - all good ideas! One (or more) are on our to-do list.
best, -Rob

I would be interested in woodchip cars. I would also want some more Penzee reefers for the Mikado to pull. Something like the 12 car PFE set without the brass engine attached. I second the wood chip cars. Talk to other z scale co and they have to much on there plate to make this request anytime soon .

Being that I actually work for a Class I RR, CSX, and am on and around the equipment day-in and day-out, I would say push modern day equipment heavily; its here and now, whats actually being moved today, and feel there is enough on the market to satisfy the "old-heads" as it is...prototypical. Wish List: *Coil Cars*- can't go wrong with that one, more Well Cars, Spine Cars, TOFC/COFC Cars, *Auto-Max* and more Auto Racks (Conrail and TFM seem to be missing), Auto Parts Boxcars, Bethgon Coal Porters, High-Side Trash Gondolas, and last but not least: ES44s, C44-9s, AC440s, and SD40-2s. I'll second the request for Auto-Max. The Auto Racks are nice but I'd love to see Auto-Max cars. Does AZL have any plans for Auto-Max?

We will put a coil car on our radar. Auto-Max may appear down the road. We actually took a close look at doing spine cars, but our manufacturer was not very optimistic since a N scale project had been difficult. Good news on the Bethgons, we already have those. First freight car we ever made. What about a rerun? Locomotives? Well we are working on the F and E units. Hope to have the SD70s and GP7s back on the market soon. Sincerely, Hans (AZL)

Thank you for the update. I'm really looking forward to the SD70's. Looking at the AZL News of last year, specifically the 2013 National Train Show News, it looks like it will include the ATSF SD75M. Is that still the plan? It looks like road number 209 in the article's picture, which would match the ATSF SD75M. Will there be more than one road number for ATSF? It's hard to beat the classic ATSF warbonnet.
