Gang,
We are working on our new project list and thought, hey - let's kick off the forum thing by asking our CUSTOMERS what do THEY want! Brilliant, eh?
Right now we are working on future FREIGHT CARS. While we like the occasional "special" or "one of a kind" car, those words are really bad karma for a manufacture investing tens of thousands of dollars for new tooling.
Put yourself in our shoes: what car is missing in Z that has lots of road names and ran in large quantities?
Who knows, you might just pick the next AZL product!
Best, -Rob

Being that I actually work for a Class I RR, CSX, and am on and around the equipment day-in and day-out, I would say push modern day equipment heavily; its here and now, whats actually being moved today, and feel there is enough on the market to satisfy the "old-heads" as it is...prototypical.
Wish List: *Coil Cars*- can't go wrong with that one, more Well Cars, Spine Cars, TOFC/COFC Cars, *Auto-Max* and more Auto Racks (Conrail and TFM seem to be missing), Auto Parts Boxcars, Bethgon Coal Porters, High-Side Trash Gondolas, and last but not least: ES44s, C44-9s, AC440s, and SD40-2s.

Great list! Good news is I think we can make you happy on two fronts: We already make the Bethgons. MTL just announced Auto Parts Boxcars, and we're working on the AC4400.
But there are a few more on that list I like quite a bit!

I agree that coal cars and coil cars are interesting and widely seen. How about shorter hoppers, iron ore cars, and Alco diesels?

Rob
Are you re-producing any of the Swiss line models?

Well, we just release the Waffle Gondolas - those are pretty darn short! I also think Uncle Will and MTL have the iron ore hopper side covered pretty well, but maybe you were thinking of something more modern? Coil Cars are interesting - although Gerd already did them. Rob Are you re-producing any of the Swiss line models? Mike We are looking at some Swiss models. This year Marklin will release their own Re 4/4 II (although I think I like ours better!) We probably will not re-produce the Re 6/6 anytime soon. But I have my eyes on two possible electric SBB locomotives - do you have a favorite? Best, -Rob

Coil cars would be great, and it's not a problem that Gerd has done some (which is news to me, by the way), because those limited past runs all sell out very quickly. Woodchip hoppers have also been done, but are very hard to find now, so there's probably a market for more of them as well. There are also modern coal cars like Aluminators that no one has done.

I would be interested in woodchip cars. I would also want some more Penzee reefers for the Mikado to pull. Something like the 12 car PFE set without the brass engine attached.

How about early (1950's) autoracks? Do you mean the open Autoracks? Were there that many of them? I thought that was a pretty temporary transition from the early 1960s to the late 1960s. I could be way off on those years. Please someone correct me. IIRC they covered the open auto racks due to vandalism problems. Before then, Detroit shipped autos in boxcars.

I would like to see 16,000 Gal Funnel Flow Tank Cars to go with the 23,000 Gal ones.
Also, you can't go wrong with the Thrall 73' Opera Window Centerbeams to go with the AZL Trenton Works Style 73' All Truss Centerbeam cars. I'll be getting lots of those!
