Has anyone purchased the Micro-Trains Santa Fe passenger cars that were released awhile back? I remember that when AZL released the Warbonnet F3s, the prices of the Marklin Santa Fe passenger cars went way up. I was just curious if anyone has the MTL and what your opinion of them is. I have yet to see an actual photos of these cars. Thanks for your input.

Dave, Here's a photo: www.zscalemonster.com/mt/550-00-000/994-01-150.jpgThe set appears to sold out at Z scale monster...kinda a silly since MTL can easily produce as many as needed. Remember that Santa Fe streamliners were predominately build by Budd and were rib-sided. The limited number of smooth-side cars were painted to appear rib-sided. The MTL models appear to be fairly accurate models, although the trucks should be silver. If memory serves, an east coast road (PRR or NYC?) had a couple of smooth-sided cars painted in this scheme for the Super Chief service. Hope this helps, Mark

I bought them. Yes, the trucks are grey. But it can appear like patina... They are beautiful, the patterns seem give a rib-sidded appareance. The weels are in plastic... I bought steel weels to replace them. With an AZL E8A-E8B they are beautiful. A very sexy stream !

Thanks for reopening this topic and mentioning Marklin again. I found the post searching Marklin and SF. Believe it or not, I found an online dealer with it still listed, and ordered a set of the MTL Santa Fe cars, today. We'll see if they ship...
The Marklin SF set includes Vista Canyon, my favorite of the private cars I've owned or travelled in. I never bought a sets because I owned an Amtrak set and didn't like the roof contours. Yea, I know..
Today, I wish somebody would sell me one. I do miss PV travel (who wouldn't) especially in the Vista Canyon. Thanks again Rory

If you haven't heard, the last of the Amtrak Pacific Parlor cars (former SF "High Dome" lounge cars) have been retired. They may be coming on the market soon. :-)

My sunrises over the Atlantic can be spectacular but those sunsets aboard the Super Chief were breathtaking. Mark-- thanks for the memories! -- Deb

I'm Afraid I never had a chance to ride the Santa Fe, no trains from SF to Denver, but I did enjoy the Pacific Parlor. Great views of sunrise over Shasta northbound, and over the Sierra from Sacramento southbound. The southbound wine and cheese reception made central Oregon fly by. Unfortunately in recent years, they were more often off the Coast Starlight than on. In my book the last elegant non-private railcars. For those who don't know the cars, checkout: trainweb.org/amtrakpix/travelogues/101410A/102210B.htmlFor AZL: a must when you expand your Budd offerings to Santa Fe. Mark

At least the Pacific Parlour Car exists in Z, not from AZL

Wonderful!
By the way: The whole scene is very well arranged: The rocks, the roots coming out and the stormy atmosphere.

I always liked that scene. It was done by John Cubbin. He is also this sites web guru! I use his scenes quite often when I photograph the ads for AZL. I have two western themed scenes in our offices. You can see some of his work on his Raildig website: www.raildig.comRob

Rob is correct, John is a master of scenery. I do all my photos on this diorama. Depends on which section I take the photo I get quiet some different effects.

Thanks for the nice words Gerd & Rob! I always get a real kick out of seeing a piece I made used as a backdrop to photograph these beautiful models. John Raildig
