Hi, Exact release dates for brass? Never get an exact date from the factory. We know that we will get the KM ML-4000 sample early May. If it matches the drawings and performed on the track we will give the OK for production. Unpainted? The run is basically sold out. But if anyone prefer their unit not painted that should not be hard to accommodate. Send an email to Rob Kluz. I would need to know by Easter if there are anyone who wants an unpainted ML-4000. Paint schemes: Only D&RGW prospector and SP bloody nose will be offered. (No discount on unpainted units)
Thanks for the reply, Hans.
If the samples are arriving in May, then they won't be shipping until the latter half of the year. That helps me plan out my finances for payment.
I'm good with D&RGW prospector and SP bloody nose since I had ordered one of each. I've got some custom painted D&RGW passenger cars done by Aaron and they should look great behind the ML-4000
Would you offer undecorated versions of these units? Better, unpainted?
Out of curiosity why? To the best of my knowledge these units only had 4 paint schemes: DRGW prospector, SP prospector, SP "bloody" nose, and the Brazilian RR red (http://sp9010.ncry.org/brazil.htm). I can see AZL doing the first three, but probably not the last one since Brazil uses metric gauge (and there is almost no market for Z in Brazil).
Actually, the ML-4000 had all of 21 units deployed in North America, and those for western RR's (as you indicated). I wasn't looking to that particular unit.
I was more interested in the J Class unit. Since I was a kid, brass locomotives were expensive and special, and often came unpainted. I found them to be beautiful just that way. So it would be interesting to have an unpainted unit to show off the craftsmanship. I've picked up several HO PRR models, all unpainted, and am delighted to have them. (Happily, 40 and 50 year old HO brass locos are now comparatively inexpensive...go figure.)
