Yup; and no, they are not to big. The tips fit perfectly up against the web of the rail on mtl 599 flex track...just don't do anything dumb like mashing the tips. A mixture of the rail brown and tie brown look great...tamiya XF-64 red brown mixed-in looks okay; highlight with tamiya weathering master kits once dry...works much, much better than bragdon powders imo. Shake pen for 20-30 seconds, depress on a paper towel a few times to get the flow started then, have at it. But, if you are using that plastic pre-molded roadbed track with those japanese labels all over the packaging for your US equipment from overseas...couldn't tell ya; work's great as a break-in/test loop though...should work since the rail is larger, I believe.
*Best all around proto-sleeper color in my opinion...Rust-Oleum Flat Camo Brown or Satin Expresso; Home Depot. Then just highlight the rails with a light coat of rail brown and weather rail/sleepers/ballast with tamiya [dust, soot, rust]. Don't be fooled into spending more than $10.00 on a small bottle of paint just because it says "hobby" or "railroad color" on it made by people who have never set foot on the tracks and use google & archive pictures as an everyday reference, that's ridiculous. Go take photos of your nearest class 1 sub-division and then go get something that is readily available every day of the week at a local hardware store. Could always have them mix you up tie brown or a rail brown using Behr Premium Plus Ultra; then you can call it custom track work with the usual details... ^_*. #feedbackgivenandmoreifyouneedit

Ok a lot info to take in . Was thinking the easy way with pens . the eyes and hands not what they use to be . If I use a brush may be painting more of the rail than I want. I want to weather the track before laying. Then do some more detail after they were laid. Thanks Dieselfuelx Bob

Bob - I used the rail brown on MT's sectional Micro-Track and it wasn't bad, but I found it didn't really make the work any easier so ultimately I stuck with the paintbrush. But give it a try, it works quite well. Dieselfuelx - right you are, consult the prototype and not Auntie Google. Except, well... whoever is painting the rails for CSX down in Wildwood FL just keeps changing their mind every few yards ...

ATW You should follow a Sperry Car. Rail can be yellow , orange and white . Depends on defect of rail. Bob
