I am a big fan of the P&LE. With the new GP38-2s out from AZL, I now have the perfect base for a P&LE locomotive! This is my first attempt at doing a custom locomotive. The decals are custom made to match the prototype. I went with a circa 1992 with the paint scheme. Technically this is a GP38 and not a -2. The prototype is an ex PC, then ex Conrail unit before it ended up with the P&LE. These two photos were the inspiration behind my version: www.railpictures.net/photo/46551/appalachianrailroadmodeling.com/protophotos/ple2034mather.jpgI have lightly weathered the unit which helps bring out the shell details. I like the bit of history it has. I have not installed the plow. I do have it painted and weathered. I am contemplating doing a Monongahela GP38 as well. The Mon was partly owned by the P&LE and two road interchanged. This would make an interesting pair. Of course I will document the build in an upcoming issue of Ztrack. Rob

That is excellent! It was a neat railroad. I was happy to see the NS do the heritage versions this year. Do you have a good source for their logo? I plan on doing decals but need the logo. What I can do is create the decals with all 5 road numbers and send them to you when I am done. I plan on doing the circa 1980s livery. appalachianrailroadmodeling.com/protophotos/mga2004a.jpgRob

That's a cool model, you don't see P&LE in Z scale.
Are the decals yellow or are they a black outline over yellow paint?

I have HO and N scale decal sheets by micro scale for the GP 38 , GP 7 and Super 7 . I can send you one. I was beating my head on the wall trying to figure how to get them down size to the z scale. Really be tickle if you could do that. Someone one told Me to take it to kinko's they may be able to do it .

Ya for last years few years working for them, before Conrail took over . Couldn't ask for a better co to work for. Everybody was great to work for and with. I started on B&O Chessie System worked C&O ,WM and when it changed to CSX. But Monongahela RR was my favorite . Small RR only about 169 miles of track but they were busy.

We have a logo! John Cubbin has been working on the logo for me. It matches the one used on the circa 1980s GP38s. It looks great! I plan to scale these down for the locomotive. The P&LE logo is yellow with a black outline. I laid the decal over a light gray section that I painted on the locomotive side. The yellow is transparent which is why the light gray section is needed. The decals were printed out on my color laser printer. Catt definitely on the decals! I will send you a set. Here is a photo of the Monongahela NS heritage unit. www.easternrailroadnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/mga8025nsimage.jpgRob

Monongahela Logo Several slightly different Monongahela logos actually appear, here's the most recent one I've drawn. This orange color appears on the Atlas N scale model, where on the actual locos the orange appears to be a faded red? Just guessing there. Will work with Rob on this. John www.ztrains.comAttachments:

This is one of the variations I've seen, with the "M" and the "A" extending slightly past the underlying large "M". The others I've seen have the "MO" and the "LA" extend past the large underlying "M". In addition too is the typeface used to spell out Monongahela. The newer ones seem to use a cleaner, thinner sans serif face. Some of the older ones use a variety of faces, all sans serif, a good deal thicker and some with a squarish feel. Just to make it all more challenging! John www.ztrains.com
