Would anyone know what the approximate time period of the 23,000 gallon tank cars would be? What would be the earliest date they would have appeared? Thx, Terry

Terry, My sources have the cars being developed and first built in the early 1960s. However I lived near the Martinez and Benicia refineries and don't recall seeing them there until the late 1960s- early 1970s.
Hope this helps,
Mark

Thx Mark. I had thought that the 33,000 gallon cars were from the 1960's and that the 23,000 gallon cars were more late 1980's or 90's.

Terry, Union Tank Car history puts them both in the 1960s. But my belief always was that the 33000 gallon cars were designed for gas/liquid products like LNG or ammonia and the 23000 were for liquids like oil and gas.
