Mark, Depends on the look you want. A more prototypically correct turnout would be #6-#8. Also if you plan on running any of the big steam, they'll run better through the longer turnouts. If you want or need to match up with the sectional track, you'll want to stay with the slower turnouts.

Working in N scale before, I really didn't care or understand turnouts because I just went to the local hobby shop and bought what they had there. Now being a Z scaler, you don't have as many options as the other scales. Z scale has truly been challenge for me and a serious learning experience, in a good way, and thanks to this forum, I have many options and ideas coming from the people who have been there. Thanks again.

I went with #6 for a smoother switching. Ed Turner went with #8 for high speed turnouts, but its for what you going to use it for. My next jig will be 4.5 for a smaller module.
