Hi all,
I was wondering what the bridge/tunnel clearance is for Z? I would normally use a double stacked container car as my reference but I don’t have one in Z scale. Also, is distance measured from rail top?
Thanks.

The standard (NMRA S-7) is 1 3/16" for the "classic" era and 1 1/4" for the modern (post-1980s) era as measured from the rail top. Hope this helps,

Thank you very much Mark. I think I had read that somewhere online but all I saw were two measurements. It didn’t make any sense at the time because it wasn’t explained as “classic and modern” eras. I’m glad you gave me the full scoop.

Mark, Actually there's more. There is also an NMRA "Old time" (19th century) standard (that would be about 1 inch) that is not yet set in Z scale. You might want to check out the NMRA Standards page: www.nmra.org/standards/sandrp/consist.htmlas they have a number of documents on clearances, spacing and such that you might find useful. Mark
