I'm looking at starting to DCC my E and F units this week. Looking at the boards I'm wondering what to do with the extra LEDs. Since both SP and WP had backup lights on many of their units I'm thinking it would be interesting to model: www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2985349I was wondering if anyone here had given it a try? I'm thinking a piece of tubing for the collar and using fiber optic for the light. Mark

Wow that guy's prices are expensive. If you can solder go to Digikey, Mouser, or even Amazon and get 10 LED's for less than the price of one of his. Same for the resistors they can be had for a few penny a piece. Mark try looking for "HELI-DOME" Style Surface Mount LED's I just ordered a couple 0603, 0805, 1206, from Mouser to see which ones would work best to light my next project. No fiber optics nessary drill a small hole mount the led from the inside slip your small piece of tubing over the dome on the outside , paint to match, and wire it up, Should work just fine. Look for one with a narrow viewing angle it will help lesson any side light leaking out and showinng through the shell. Most decoders the Blue wire is (+), and the Yellow wire is (-) Reverse light. don't forget to add a resistor. Also you may need to file/mill/sand a little off the back end of the frame to make room for the wires between the shell and frame. They look something like this.

Yeah, it's expensive but for a small project and a few pieces maybe not too bad. But you can see the different size fiber optics and LED's there. There's another German supplier who has red LED's surface mounted on the back car. Again expensive maybe but at least you can see in the pictures what a surface mounted Pico LED might look like. www.z-hightech.de/index.php?wg=2&sprache=englisch
