Hello:
Are there Z scale decoders for F7 Diesels made by Micro-Scale?
And in North America, what reputable people are there to install said decoders?
Are there url's where I can learn about Z scale DCC?
Thank you for your time.

No one makes a drop-in Decoder specifically for the Micro Trains Z scale F7. You will need to mill the chassis down to make room for a Decoder. I've done a few installing a TCS Z2 decoder. Their are several write-ups on various message boards detailing how to do it. I will try and find a link to the one i used and post it later today or tomorrow.

hogger, To answer you first question, with work you can add a wire-in decoder. You can find the details at: www.wiringfordcc.com/zmtf7.htmThere are newer decoders since this was published that may fit better. In general, I haven't given much consideration to DCCing the MTL units because of the required mill work. However since I have a number of dummy A and B units, I've been thinking of installing a decoder in them and create a couple of permanently joined A-A and A-B sets. As for the rest, really no good single spot to look. Greg's site is a good start. If you're looking for how-to, www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?forums/z-scale.113/ is a good site to search. Over the years, the discussions have covered Märklin Mikado and Pacifics, F59, AZL's original GP (all wired in) and sound for the RDC and in MTL dummy F7s (tjdreams?). Starting with the GPs (both MTL & AZL) the "drop-in" decoders are typical for the injection locomotives. As far as I know the brass still tend to be wired. I'll decline mentioning possible installers as reviews have been spotty. Hope this helps, Mark
