Feeling at a loss here. Been searching and searching with not much luck. Looking for a few industry buildings... Possibly a shipping dock or small loading facility. A small to midsize grain elevator, yard buildings/tower as such. Will post a picture of layout later but I have 3 spots open. 2 for smaller industry and one larger as well as a yard tower. Havent had much luck. Was thinking of doing card stock but since I stand close to the layout not sure Id be happy with the details. Anyone know of a good place dealing in prebuilt or kit strutures or anyone producing these type of buildings 3D printed?

For that era, you can get by with tilt-wall concrete warehouse structures which are among the easiest buildings to scratchbuild. (assuming that is what you mean by "shipping dock".) The Walthers ADM grain elevator would make for a nice medium size structure in Z. Just some minor changes to make doors the right size etc but otherwise works as-is. It is woefully small as an N structure and is somewhat better as a Z building but still not towering like the real thing. Many yards of that era won't have towers per se, but would likely have some sort of yard office. The BLMA yard office in N could be used with some mods, or something along those lines could be scratchbuilt. I imagine that there are some 3D models of similar structures, but you'll just have to use judgement as to whether or not they meet your level of quality or match up with what you are going for. I would not discount some of the card stock models as they can look very nice. Since they are often very inexpensive, it can't hurt to try one and see how it looks. I requested on seller on eBay to put a corrugated metal skin on a "Walthers Co-op" style small grain elevator to "modernize" it a little and it looks really nice. I'll try and post the link shortly. EDIT: Here it is: Bren-Sea Grain Elevator on eBay

Thanks dazed, all very good tips. Ill keep searching shapeways and the walthers ADM looks amazing but I think its just a tad too big for the layout. However im going to make a paper template of the footprint and see if i can do some relandscaping. Might be going back to the cardstock route just for a try since as you mentioned it is pretty cheap. Happy New Years to all.

Ive actually been browsing alot of tbe cornerstone building structures in N scale and alot look like they could be adjusted in size to work great with Z. Going to give it a shot. Thanks again!!

Do you have a recommendation on what to use to trim down the structure size? Is an xacto knife sufficient or is there a better tool. I would need to be able to cut dead straight lines however I guess minor adjustments could be sanded out. What Im getting at is if permittable I may try to change the whole scale down slightly for the buildings, or at a minimum hieght. I think it would work well for the structures im looking at such as the ADM elevator, medusa concrete plant and the farmers co op rural grain elevator. Mainly looking at that as it seems to come with the same utility shed that sells alone for almost the same price and might kit bash using the extra panels from the elevator.

For trimming, a straight edge and Xacto, or sheetrock knife. Another good option is the Atlas "Super Saw".
You can also use other tricks like just raising the ground around a structure to get the bottom at the right height. May or may not need to cut the top depending on the situation. Just get creative.

Dazed you mentioned in earlier making adjustments to the doors etc, in tbe ADM grain elevator. Forgive my ignorance here but what would be tbe best way to go about this?

Dazed you mentioned in earlier making adjustments to the doors etc, in tbe ADM grain elevator. Forgive my ignorance here but what would be tbe best way to go about this? I believe there is only one (ground level) door on the model as I recall. Either way, I would probably just fill in the N-scale door opening(s) with styrene and putty, sand it smooth, and then cut a Z-scale door a little further down. I wouldn't worry about the windows at all....just leave them as-is. I would probably lower the height on the "side sheds" and not worry about the width, unless there was a particular reason to. (honestly, you could probably leave them as-is and they would look fine....depends on what you're going for but I've seen these sheds be all over the map with regards to size, height, etc.)

Well so far so good. Ive build the co op elevator and shed. The elevator is alittle large, however using a rough guide of a railcar being 15 feet tall, it measures in around 120' which isnt unreasonable. Im going to make it a farm/fuel/feed shop at the end of my grain siding. Ive built the "abandoned" coal flood tower and conveyor. Very pleased with the rust effects on the galvanized panels by mixing testors thinner and rust color over painted silver. Working on the concrete plant and next up the adm grain elevator. The buildings look slighty large but nothing ridiculous. For the amount of fun I am having building and looking forward to to some operation time Im glad I went this route. I think I would have gotten frustrated scratch building. Will post pics once things are installed on the layout. Thanks again for the idea.
