New to Z scale. My Marklin steam locomotive quit working. I do not have the experience to even attempt to fix it. What would be the best place send it to get it repaired? Thanks.

Welcome.
Although it sounds like your mind is ready made up to not attempt to fix it yourself, might I suggest you wait for a few replies? There is a ton of very useful information regarding repair on the 'web, as well as forums such as this one...
I only recently acquired a couple of Marklin locos, both steam and diesel; they all needed to be taken down, cleaned and lubed,(which I was able to do myself without much fuss) and they now all run really well.
Can you give us the item number of your engine? I'm guessing it was running(?) and now it is not. Let's see if we can trouble-shoot it before you send it somewhere for repair...

For Marklin, contact Frank Daniels at Z Scale Hobo. He is now performing Marklin loco service and repair. His email is:

Indeed. Having dealt with Frank several times, I can attest that he is a "straight shooter" and will do right by you... Mark in Oregon

Thank ya'll for the replies. I've been busy with school, studying, etc so haven't been able to get on here. The engine is a class 74 steam locomotive that came with a ready to run kit. It ran very well for roughly 4 years, and quit working. I appreciate ya'll directing me over to Frank to help get it fixed. I have a good bit of HO which I currently have some in my bedroom, but HO just takes up too much space to make a real nice layout.

Hope you get your Z up & running again. I've always admired the details in HO scale but my train space is quite limited as well so I started with Z. The guys at my train club tease me all the time about the mini gal with her mini train but I don't regret working in this scale.

The Above three videos inspired me to fix my own trains. If you decide to do it yourself please upload photos, ask questions, etc... Frank does an incredible Job! if you need someone else to fix it. Glad to have a fellow student involved in z.

Here is someone else you might try for any and all Z scale repairs. He is the person I use. His name is Don Fedjur and his email is donfedjur@aol.com I would offer this piece of advice: Do not attempt to repair any Z scale engines yourself IF you don't have the knowledge or expertise. Better to let someone who does, do the work for you and do it right the first time. I got myself in a pickle a few years ago by trying to repair a loco myself using information gleaned from the web, and it was a disaster. I had to resort to outside help, hence Don Fedjur. He's a straight shooter too and I trust him completely. I think he's a member of this group too, but I'm not sure.

I would never use Don Fedjur. He hasn’t returned my C44 in 5 years.

That's an easy fix. Just need small fingers or be good with small needle nose pliers to remove and install the new brushes. You'll see the brushes in the videos Tommy posted.
