Has anyone ever attended this? They have one at the Dulles Expo Center near me in Chantilly this weekend and wondering if they had much in the way of Z scale or scenery?

Occasionally the DC Z-Bend Track group will set up a working layout at that show, but not this year. My opinion is that Greenburg shows having been going downhill for a loooong time.

The few I have attended in various locations... not worth any amount of travel if outside of your immediate location (within an hour's drive).

I've seen some nice deals at Greenburg great train and toy show. They had a really good deal on replacement windows for your house at the last show i went to. I mean why would you ever go to a home improvement center for Free, When you can PAY to go to a Greenburg great train and toy show to get a saies pitch from a home improvement / Replacement Window contractor. Sad to say finding dealers selling everything from Cellphones & Jewelry, to siding for your house or even Bath fitters at a Greenbergs show in Timonium is nothing new.
But in all fairness I've also gotten some good deals on trains and train related items there too. For the most part they have trains & toys or related items at their shows. They usually have a nice selection of N HO S O27 & O scale items at their shows and lately they have had a dealer or 2 with a little bit of Z.
In short if you need that hard to find piece / part or want something in particular it might be worth the trip, If not well i wouldn't bother.

David Unfortunately, this seems to be a depressing trend in some model train shows. At the last "Great Train Show" in Pomona a couple of months ago, I found only one dealer selling a few Z rolling stock. In past shows, I sometimes found a couple of sellers with Z scale. Word going around was that the promoters were trying to incorporate more general toy sellers into the venue. It showed as there was more sellers with general toys than in past shows. Also, the number of layouts was greatly reduced. There was only one N scale layout when they normally had 2 or 3. Worst of all there was no showing by the ZoCal group, meaning practically zero presence of Z for a train show. The majority of the other scales did have sizeable representation especially HO, O, and G. N and S had some but not a large representation. I felt the name should have been changed to "The Not-so-Great Train AND Toy Show"

This reminds me of the STORM WARNINGS Up North .. The weather channels told people to stay home and not go out in the storm on the week end .. Saturday the Sun would come out and I would sit in my Store Front and see 3 locals because the out of towners were told to stay home .. I will be at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly with my Z Scale items .. But ALL of the Z Scale customers will now not venture out due to the knowledgeable Z Scalers that know all about shows .. Come see me if you want to venture out of the house or visit me at needtrains.com and see the Z Scale items NOT at the show .. SEE ABOVE

Wish I could travel to see and meet the z scale dealers that I buy from. It's rare to hear about anything z scale east of the Mississippi. Norm is in middle doing shows . Anthony doesn't do shows as I know of and AZL just the big shows. Also Model train stuff are a no show. If everything works out see you at pa.show

I've been going to the shows for about 20 years now. In all that time I've purchased less than $500 of product. If you're going for products, go to EBay. The shows are really about the exchange of information and ideas.
I've spent hours around the BAZboys, Zocal and SOZ layouts, studying the operation and scenery, BSing with the owners. I'll check out the larger scales for ideas I can incorporate into my Z work. Then there's the books that will provide information about the prototypes that you'll never find on the internet. Woodland Scenics is always demonstrating their new products as well as their golden oldies.
I met my current train store at a show. He wanted to know what I modeled, I told him Z and he wanted to know more. He gets me anything I want at prices competitive to the internet and stocks all those odds and ends one runs out of when building a layout.
At my last show, I even met a doll house maker who gave me a number of good construction techniques. So don't sell the shows short.
