Those rocks on the road look HUGE, I feel for those who are over there and planned to ride the Gotthard...
I went on the Bernina express (train ride to top of St Moritz) last year and I fell in love with the Swiss rail and scenery, lots of eye candy for modellers.

Those rocks on the road look HUGE, I feel for those who are over there and planned to ride the Gotthard... Maybe "rock" slide is a bit understated! Sad story: two Germans in one of the cars when the house sized boulder smashed their car. (None on trains were harmed) In a more "fun" note, the SBB recently created a new ad campaign called "Welcome Home" they commissioned a song for the campaign and had an employee talent contest to find two workers to sing. Sounds like a disaster, no? Well the thing shot up to #7 on the local music charts and they released it as a single. Check out the YouTube video - and remember that's a clerk and a locomotive engineer singing.... www.sbb.ch/en/corporation/the-company/sbb-brand/onthemove/campaign.cmpgn.nl1204-unterwegs-en.html

Wow! That is a big slide. I remember passing the rest stop on that portion of the highway. It almost looks like they were working on the hillside in that area.

Rob They were indeed working on that area - trying to stabilize the hill side. That's one way to do it: cause a land slide that eliminates the whole hill side. One construction worker was killed. The other escaped using the traditional "run like hell" method. Looks like they are planning on the line being closed for a month. Shuttle bus service around the landslide for passengers. Cargo via other routes. Attachments:
